Miletos
An offline-first field guide for ancient discoveries across the Aegean and Anatolia
Miletos is a field research companion for exploring the ancient Aegean and Anatolia — built for archaeologists, history enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to know what stood on the ground beneath their feet. Mark the sites you discover with GPS-tagged photos and notes, organize them into your own categories, and carry your entire field log with you — fully offline, with no account or sign-in required.
Every discovery can be linked to the Pleiades gazetteer, the scholarly reference for places in the ancient world. Once linked, Miletos shows an offline place guide pulled from a bundle of over 350 pre-loaded places, so you can read the history of a location with zero signal.
Toggle seven historical map layers right on top of the modern terrain: Roman roads, aqueducts, city walls, canals, ancient urban areas, and the coastline as it looked in antiquity. Nearly 4,000 gazetteer points reveal progressively as you zoom in.
Miletos collects no analytics, shows no ads, and never sends your photos, location, or notes to any server beyond your own private iCloud account.

FAQ
Does Miletos work without an internet connection?
Yes — the map, your discoveries, the ancient-world layers, and over 350 bundled place guides all work fully offline.
How does iCloud sync work?
If signed into iCloud, discoveries sync automatically to your own private CloudKit database. Sign out of iCloud at any time to keep everything local-only.
What is Pleiades, and why does Miletos link to it?
Pleiades is a community-built gazetteer of ancient-world places used by archaeologists and historians. Linking a discovery to it unlocks the offline place guide for that site.
Will there be a paid version or in-app purchases?
Miletos is free today with no ads or subscriptions. Optional features are being explored for a future update; everything currently in the app will stay free.
